See How “Selfie” Saved Man from spending 99 years in prison

A man was wrongfully accused by his ex-girlfriend and was arrested.

He risked being sentenced to 99 years in prison but a selfie he took on the day of the alleged crime served as his messiah and saved him from jail.

Christopher Precopia was arrested after an ex-girlfriend claimed he cut an “X” shape into her chest. The 22-year-old man was shocked when police arrested him while he was at work last September at a lumberyard in Williamson County in Texas, USA. He was accused of burglary with intent to commit other crimes.

At the time Christopher Precopia had no clue why he was being arrested, until he later discovered that his ex-girlfriend from high school reported him to the police with a made up story.

He said:

I had no idea why everything was happening, and I was lost.

Precopia’s ex, who was not named, claimed that he broke into her home in Temple before cutting an X into her chest with a box cutter.

Without telling him what his crime was or giving him fair hearing, Police took Precopia to Williamstown County Jail and released him only after his family posted a £117,000 ($150,000) bond.

Later, when the young man realized why he had been arrested. Turns out that on the night of the alleged attack, the Precopia was actually 65 miles away at a hotel in Austin with his mum, Erin Precopia. Fortunately, he had taken a selfie of himself with his family on that night, which he shared on social media.

Mrs Precopia said:

By the grace of God, [the accuser] said it happened on the day when I can say totally, 100 per cent, where he was at.

Although he had a solid alibi, authorities charged him anyway, which police experts told broadcaster KVUE might have been presumptuous. The station explained that usually police interview suspects before charging them with a crime.

Precopia’s lawyer, Rick Flores, told ABC News in America that at the time of the arrest Precopia asked what the reason was.

He claimed that their response was:

“Something along the lines of, ‘don’t act like you don’t know what we’re talking about’.”

The police affidavit confirmed that Christopher was charged with first-degree felony burglary of a habitation, with intent to commit additional felonies. Flores added that offence was punishable by up to 99 years if convicted.

Police finally dropped the charges nine months after his arrest when his lawyer brought the alibi evidence – the selfie – to Bell County prosecutors.

The lying girlfriend later admitted to Temple police that she reported Precopia because of a difficult relationship with him several years earlier. She is not being charged with a crime.

Fake life: AY joins Kelvin Ikeduba to blast nollywood (Video)

Ace Nigerian actor and comedian, Ayodeji Richard Makun popularly known as AY has reacted positively to Kelvin Ikeduba video saying nollywood is a backstabbing community where some pretend to love you in the open and condenm all your determination and efforts to succeed when you are not there’.

Few days ago Kelvin Ikeduba in a video describe nollywood as a place filled with fake people.

This was the statement made by AY in response

“As a growing actor and a movie producer, NOLLYWOOD has exposed me to both the good, the bad and ugly.Barely few years in the industry, i have experienced all sorts from the stables of the high and mighty self entitled ‘stakeholders’, to the very insecured individuals whose only claim to fame is an old testament fact of “We started this industry”.

The above post by Kevin Ikeduba, has given me the courage to further introduce you to our Nollywood. So welcome to an industry where rivalry and fakeness is fast becoming a legacy designed for posterity. Welcome to a backstabbing community where some pretend to love you in the open and condenm all your determination and efforts to succeed when you are not there.

Welcome to an industry where enmity reigns supreme… Eg “If you are using her in the movie, then I can’t be on it”, or “i can’t be in your film and not play the lead role”. Welcome to an industry where some actors have more visible roles on Instagram and Red Carpets. Welcome to an industry where some would maintain a position that would make you keep to yourself rather than ask for a selfie.

Welcome to an industry where some cannot use their platforms to help another colleague to promote his or her work (including the ones they are contracted for). Welcome to an industry where most families mainly depend on public support when one of our own falls sick. Welcome to an industry where some engages themselves daily on WhatsApp groups chatting about how others have no business making movies (even when they break their own records back to back).

Moving the industry forward goes beyond seeking for the downfall of others, or basking in the euphoria of an old glory that has been taken over by trend and time. Above all, I still see Nollywood as a special place; a place filled with creative geniuses. Working together and supporting ourselves can only make greater arts happen to the diverse audiences we all set out to entertain.
