Real Madrid midfield mastero Luka Modric is reportedly the winner of the 2018 Ballon D’or.
Modric will therefore become the first non messi-ronaldo player to win the award in the last decade.
Last week, France football’s team where at the Spanish capital to make the usual photo with the prize that should be on the cover of the magazine. And Sources close to them understood that the Croatian have won the prestigious price.
In the wake of the 2018 World Cup, which saw a number of favourites exit prematurely and plenty of individual talents taking centre-stage, the way indeed paved for a new player to break up the long-standing Ronaldo-Messi duopoly, especially since neither player reached the levels that were expected of them in Russia.
For a World Cup that was hyped up as a tournament for the two forwards to shine in, both their respective nations were disappointingly eliminated in the last 16 stage.
Modric won the world cup Golden ball award – the prize awarded to the tournament’s best-performing player – after guiding his side to the final in Moscow.
In doing so, he firmly established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world (if not the best) after guiding Croatia to the World Cup final and playing a pivotal part as Real Madrid won a third successive Champions League trophy, not to mention clinching the FIFA Best Award ahead of perennial duality Messi and Ronaldo.
The Award ceremony will take place in paris on Monday 3rd December 2018.
In other news, Kylian Mbappe will win the Raymond Kopa award for the best U21 player in 2018.
Red hot Mo.Salah fires reds to last-16 of Champions league
Football fans around the world will always
believe that their team – unlike others –
prefer to do things the hard way.
For Liverpool supporters, there is a kernel of
truth in such declarations but, in reality, they
should expect nothing else when it comes to
the Champions League.
The quality of the opposition, particularly in
the group they were handed this year,
ensures it’s always going to be difficult to
progress through this competition.
And so a winner-takes-all final group game
against Napoli was perhaps nothing less than they should have expected.
In the end, all that mattered was getting
through, and that’s precisely what Jurgen
Klopp’s team managed to do courtesy of a 1-0.
Thanks to mo.salah who sprung into life at a crucial time for Liverpool.
Until this month Salah hadn’t reached the peaks of last season – but the Egyptian star has burst into life the last few days first with a hat-trick at Bournemouth and then his
opener against Napoli.
The striker was back to his electric best against Napoli and although he found a worthy adversary in Kalidou Koulibaly
even the top drawer Senegal defender couldn’t keep the £34million attacker at bay.
His first half finish was typical Salah – and a priceless goalfor Liverpool’s season.
That they were made to fight for it only
makes the end result more satisfying, and
they can now rest easy until February safe in
the knowledge that no Europa League trips
Instead, all focus turns to Sunday’s meeting
with Manchester United and a chance to turn a big week into a perfect one.

Sarri outwits Guardiola to leave Liverpool top as Chelsea blunt Manchester City
Manchester City suffered their first league
defeat of the season against Chelsea on
Saturday to drop into second place in the
table behind new leaders Liverpool .
Pep Guardiola’s side dominated the majority
of the first half at Stamford Bridge but were
left stunned just before the break when N’Golo Kante fired in the opener from Eden Hazard’s cut-back.
David Luiz then doubled Chelsea’s advantage in the 78th minute to secure a 2-0 win that keeps Chelsea above Arsenal on goal difference but, crucially, inadvertently aids Liverpool in their charge for the title.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, who beat Bournemouth
4-0 away earlier on Saturday, now lead the
standings by a point while City drop into
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri had called on his side to show a reaction against City after seeing his side suffer their second straight loss on the road in midweek, when the Blues gave up a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to Wolves at Molineux.
And the Italian certainly elicited a reaction
after both he and Guardiola decided on a
personnel change up front, with both opting
to omit strikers from their starting line-ups in
favour of a ‘false No.9’.
While Sarri dropped struggling forward
Alvaro Morata for Hazard, Guardiola decided
against starting Gabriel Jesus in place of the injured Sergio Aguero and instead placed his faith in Raheem Sterling up front.
And the England international didn’t take
long to threaten Chelsea’s goal when, in the
ninth minute, Fabian Delph robbed Jorginho
of the ball, passed to Leroy Sane who cut the ball back for Sterling.
The 24-year-old raced into the area but failed to get a clean shot away, but the effort
marked the start of City’s utter dominance of the first half.
The visitors created attack after attack but,
somehow, Chelsea held on and moments
before the break the hosts got the opportunity they had been eagerly waiting for to take the lead.
With City failing to clear a long pass in from
David Luiz, the ball was eventually played to
Hazard out on the left, who spotted an
advancing Kante and cut it back to the
The France World Cup winner – whose new
attack-minded role has been criticised by
some this season – raced forward and drove in a powerful shot into the roof of the net that handed the Blues the lead and sent the home fans wild.
Guardiola reacted by hauling off Sane for
Jesus, but Chelsea remained dangerous after the break and, indeed, Ederson was needed to keep out two efforts from Willian, the first of which was a free-kick.
As mistakes began creeping into City’s game, Chelsea appeared more and more confident and it wasn’t long before they got their second from a corner kick, won by substitute Ross Barkley.
Luiz drifted into space and headed the ball
over Ederson to create a more comfortable
score-line for the Blues, which Chelsea held
onto to secure a famous win that throws open the title race and keeps the race for a top-four spot tight.
